Greg Stolze's REIGN - Digest-Sized Edition Collecting Pledges! [10 Dec 2009|07:52am]

roleplayers

[perich]
If you've heard about Greg Stolze's fantasy RPG REIGN and have wanted to check it out for cheap, your chance has come!

Arc Dream publishing is collecting pre-orders for a digest-sized paperback of the REIGN rules, called the REIGN Enchirodon.

A $15 pledge gets you a sharp little paperback mailed to your house, along with a free copy of the rules via PDF. Just want the PDF? That's only $10.

You can secure a pre-order via Kickstarter. The pre-order's almost full, though; Arc Dream is only collecting pledges for another 8 days and only taking another $1400 in orders.

If you're not familiar with the crazy cleverness of REIGN, Greg Stolze, or the One Roll Engine (ORE), then check out Stolze's REIGN website or some of the reviews.

(And, yes, I'm in for $15)

I would just like to say that, looking ahead, I am totally geeked that they are doing an episode entitled "The Uncanny Valley" and i really wish I knew who was writing/directing. And I am also geeked that Jim Clemente is doing another ep for them. Win.

I haven't heard anything back from them and the auction ends soon. If it is inappropriate please remove with my deepest apologies.

I am auctioning off my gaming collection with the profits going to various different charity organizations. It's a great way to get some gifts for Christmas on the cheap and for a good cause.

  • 16:02 I say that last one because I am just now reading the submissions that arrived two weeks before Comic-Con. #

Campaign Intro [09 Dec 2009|06:05pm]

robheinsoo
I started a new D&D campaign last Wednesday night. Somewhat ironic timing. This is the background sheet I gave the players before we started. Running the second session tonight.

*******

The world was shattered twelve years ago.

A mighty war between the gods of the astral realm and the primordials of the Elemental Chaos resulted in an unfolding collision between all the planes.

Both sets of immortals and their formerly separate homelands slammed into the world, along with the mirror planes beside the world, the Feywild and the Shadowfell. The immortals lost their immortality. The various planes ended up wedged into the four corners of the world and scattered in uneven smashlets across the entire map.

Everyone knew that the demons of the abyss and the resurgent primordials would attempt to destroy any true world they were actually forced to live in. Few would have predicted that the High Lords of Faerie would be the other major threat to the world’s existence. Most of the Lords of the Summer Court perished in the conflagration of worlds, a disaster they appear to have had little part in. The High Lords that remain, largely Lords of the Winter Court, seek to regain their full and separate realm, even though cutting what’s left of Faerie loose would probably destroy what’s left of the world.

You know this because several of you have a rebel High Lord as a patron. Picture Third Prince of Eagles as a sort of Mayan/Elven high lord of Faerie. His personal trademarks are all manner of piercings and bloodlettings that would mark him as a deviant mofo except that when he drains the blood, he actually manages to drain away Evil.
His token is an eagle feather. Any variety will do provided it is prominently worn. You have learned to trust Third Prince’s magic—so far those wearing an eagle feather token have proven reliable.

Third Prince of Eagle’s somewhat unlikely ally is the Raven Queen. Unlike many of the gods, who have somewhat abandoned their role of custodianship for the world to focus on their own quest for re-immortality, the Raven Queen embraces Change. She always knew that things were going to die eventually anyway, and here we are.

Of course many of the undead creatures of the former Shadowfell do not share the Raven Queen’s essentially benevolent attitude towards Death. But the Raven Queen’s Chosen, the Shadar-Kai, have embraced their new status as potential protectors and champions of the world while the servants of the gods who follow the gods’ orders too literally are busy spending all their time in rituals to try to restore the gods’ power.

The PCs presently operate out of one of Third Prince of Eagles’ pyramidal strongholds. If there’s one advantage to a shattered world, it’s that creatures of power like Third Prince of Eagles can employ techniques that thrust through the fabric of space to send servants and allies on boomerang teleports, timed missions that have a definite endpoint, but offer wide-ranging teleportation capacity otherwise not available in this world.

So I had carrot cake and milk for dinner (what? It's veggies!) and I am having bourbon and tea for dessert. Being a grownup has its advantages.

I did indeed attempt that (unrated, but ptobably a 5.8) route on the skywall tonight--twice; the second time I got two holds higher than the first. But I failed to unclip the pro without pumping out and losing my grip, and once you're off this sucker you ain't getting back on. I think I can do it, though--I made it up the overhung part and started the transition to the vertical, and this particular route goes up the corner rather than across the roof, which is much, MUCH more doable.

Monday we try again.

As warmup for that, I did the easist 5.6 I could find (really did not want to get pumped) and then I went out back and did a moderately overhung 5.8, though not the one on the big wall (which I really need tocome back to). I finished the night on the slab, because I fell twice on the crux on that second 5.8 (turned out the trick was to stop messing around with the feet and just go big on the left foot left hand, because the right foot I was trying to step up on was useless except to balance against) and the second time I fell I almost stuck it... which is, of course, how you hurt yourself.

Anyway, I tried a pink route that Jeff suggested (It's not rated yet, and I had been avoiding it because it looked sketchy and out of my price range) and I sent it. Not without falls, and I did not do the headwall with elegance, but I sent it. Then I dropped down the headwall and kept working on that move on the yellow route on the same rope that still defeats me... and was defeated by it.

However, when I went over to check the "how do you rate this?" wall, it turns out that more than 50% of respondants were calling the pink one a 5.10-... which means, if the rating sticks, it will be my first 5.10.

Here are some photos of the skywall, by the way, so you can see what a beast it is. This is the front room's old paint job: it's much prettier now, having been done in red rock murals some time back. That horrible thing you can see off right in the second photo (the one taken from an elevation--which is to say, the stairs up to the bouldering cave) is the barrel vault, famed in song and bitching. The part you can see in this photo, where it bulges out there, is on top of ten feet of steep overhang.

The red route I have been talking about, the balancy one that's all splits and stemming, is in that back right corner there.
,
The route I am working on goes up the vertical wall on the right of the Sky Wall, crosses the overhang at the top (there where it's in shadow), goes up that corner alongside the roof, and then straight up the vertical.

I may be figuring out this climbing thing. I am pretty pleased with me tonight.

Tankadin Threat Problems [09 Dec 2009|08:12pm]

[ mood | aggravated ]

I'm a tankadin and I'm having a bit of problem with my threat lately. I get pulled off easily by high dps classes like hunters, arms warriors, or locks even. It's getting a tad annoying and I do what I can to hold threat. I use the 96969 rotation which is supposed to give maximum threat and I pop my wings on boss pulls. I always lay down my aoe but it still gets pulled even. My guild won't let me tank ICC until I "fix" my threat problem so I'm benched and healing on my druid instead.
My armory is here http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Azshara&n=Lelandarin
Any tips/suggestions/advice? :(
I have the Libram of Valiance that gives 200 STR by SoV/SoCorr ticks. I use it for threat sometimes since str gives sp via our talent Touched by the Light.
