Phew, had a late night tonight, we're on our drive back home from SF, just stopped in to play some KOL, get ourselves set up to have maximum adventures tomorrow for Mysticality day. :)
We went to Thump's party at 550 Barneveld, Astral Projection was playing. They are one of my favorite psytrance acts, one of the first ones that I bought when I started getting really into it. (After the Return To The Source CDs).
The party was fun, not too crowded, which was a surprise, last time a big name psytrance act was in town the lines to get in were ridiculous. We got there early which helped massively, we were in around 10:30, which meant we got to enjoy the empty dance floor for a while. Unfortunately the first DJ started mediocre (sounded like ehhhh quality morning trance) and got worse (turned out she was a crap bay area mega-rave style trance dj, cheesy horrible stuff, with lyrics sometimes, bleagh!). So we wasted some dancing energy on that. monkeequeen, Mihai and fling93 (Rich's cousin who we met for the first time at the party) showed up sometime during that set, adding friends didn't really make the music any better, heh, but it gave some socializing to do to help distract. Fortunately the next DJ was substantially better, though I'm not sure if he was responsible for the horrible breaks that came after the cheesy trance. Regardless, somebody spun some good psytrance for a couple hours and we danced madly.
Highlight of that period of the party was the girl who showed up and started making fluoro balloon hats. Very cool, it was entertaining looking around the dance floor and seeing glowing balloon hats bobbing about.
Finally Astral Projection went on, only about 30 minutes late. They played an ok set, though as usual I wonder how much 'playing' they were actually doing, and how much was just predone on their mac (most of it is my guess.) They played a bunch of their old favorites, though at this point, do they have anything else? I don't think they've put anything new out in ages... They really need to. They wrapped up with God is a DJ. Anyhow, it was music I love and I danced really hard, despite being exhausted. The only real negative was their audio cut out for approximately a beat about 4 or 5 different times. Doh.
Afterwards we went to the Video Cafe near monkeequeen's apartment for food. I had a banana boat, basically a banana split, but made with banana (duh), granola, frozen yogurt, grape, watermelon and cantaloupe. Yummy.
Afterward we dropped Mihai and fling93 off at Mihai's apartment, while trying to find a bakery that was open as I really wanted fresh bread. No luck at that. Rats.
And now we are here, I am exhausted, and still breadless. :) Home soon with any luck, though first I will use the power of the internet to try and locate a bakery nearby. We're going to check out Montague Expressway as we drive toward 680... :)
